The Waunakee High School duo of Colin Steck and Nathan Lorenz brought a five-bass limit to the scale Sunday weighing 13 pounds, 3 ounces, to win the 2016 TBF/FLW High School Fishing Wisconsin State Championship on the Minocqua Chain of Lakes. The win earned the team trophies, the title of state champions and advanced the team to the High School Fishing Central Conference championship on the Ohio River in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, on September 23-24.

Smith Takes Potomac Title

Casey Smith was looking forward to the afternoon tide - the one that delivered a 20-pound bag on day two - but capitalizing on the morning cycle ended up securing his victory at the Costa FLW Series presented by Plano on the Potomac River. Sacking up 16 pounds, 8 ounces, he closed the deal with a three-day total of 51-6.

Williams Tops Co-Anglers on the Potomac

Proving that luck occurs when opportunity meets preparation, David Williams took advantage of the fertile grass bed that eventual pro winner, Casey Smith fished by reeling in a limit that weighed 14 pounds, 9 ounces to win the co-angler title in the Costa FLW Series event presented by Plano on the Potomac River.

The Travelers Rest High School duo of Oakley Connor and Gantt Connor brought a massive five-bass limit to the scale Saturday weighing 25 pounds, 6 ounces, to win the 2016 TBF/FLW High School Fishing South Carolina State Championship on Santee Cooper. The win earned the team trophies, the title of state champions and advanced the team to the High School Fishing Southeastern Conference championship on Lake Cumberland in Somerset, Kentucky, on September 16-17.

If his main course turns out as good or better than his appetizers, Casey Smith could run away with the Costa FLW Series event presented by Plano on the Potomac River. On day two, Smith caught a few fish during the outgoing tide, but nabbed his 20-pound bag - the event's biggest sack and the only one starting with a 2 - during the latter half of his day when the outgoing tide started.

Correcting a strategic error from day one, Casey Smith of Macedon, N.Y. surged into the day-two lead at the Costa FLW Series event presented by Plano on the Potomac River. Fishing reaction baits and slower presentations, Smith caught 20 pounds for a two-day total of 34 pounds, 14 ounces. Though he weighed the best bag of the tournament, the rest of the pack is close behind and hungry.
