Today at Lake Champlain in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Andy Morgan won his third Angler of the Year title and its $100,000 prize. He's not the first to win three, but Morgan is the first in FLW Tour history to win three in four years.
Florida pro Scott Martin caught a five-bass limit that weighed 20 pounds on day two of the Walmart FLW Tour event presented by General Tire on Lake Champlain to extend his lead going into the third of four competition days. Martin's two-day total is 42 pounds, 5 ounces. Trailing him in second is Bryan Schmitt, who weighed the day's biggest limit - 21-05 - and has a two-day total of 38-12.
Kentucky Lake did not go the way I intended. I was pumped and ready to rock out a top-20 finish. I had great expectations of myself, but nothing seemed to come together. Practice was dicey, but I thought for sure I could put something together to make the cut. That was until day one came, and the whole vibe of my day instantly went from eager to agitated.

Smallmouths or largemouths? That's the ubiquitous question every time the Walmart FLW Tour visits Lake Champlain. And on day one of the 2016 Tour finale on Champlain, which is presented by General Tire, that question again toyed with anglers' tournament strategies. From the looks of the day-one top five, both species are represented, with the advantage given to largemouths. Scott Martin holds the early lead with an all-largemouth catch of 22 pounds, 5 ounces. Behind him, there are two mixed bags and then two more all-largemouth bags.
He's won here twice before, and he's trying to make it three. Reigning Walmart FLW Tour Angler of the Year Scott Martin jumped out in front at the Lake Champlain event, which is presented by General Tire, with a day-one limit weighing 22 pounds, 5 ounces.
The 2016 season ushered in a giant rookie class of 28 anglers to the Walmart FLW Tour. Among them are competitors from many different walks of life, including long-time co-angler standouts, industry veterans and new arrivals from FLW's other tournament circuits.
The "right" hair jig for smallmouths is a small 1/16- to 1/8-ounce marabou jig with a round or mushroom-shaped head. The jig is similar to marabou jigs used by crappie fishermen, but bass models will often have a larger, stronger hook and possibly a longer or thicker skirt. Naturally, anglers have their favorites, and there are subtle differences in jigs that make some better than others.
A whole heck of a lot is on the line this week on Lake Champlain at the Walmart FLW Tour finale presented by General Tire and hosted by the City of Plattsburgh and Adirondack Coast Visitors Bureau. The tournament just got crackin' a few minutes ago out of Plattsburgh, N.Y.

Stretching 100-plus miles from it's beginning down south at Whitehall, N.Y., and running all the way up to the Canadian border between the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Adirondacks in New York, Lake Champlain is a giant of a lake. Though the competitors aren't allowed to venture into Canada, there is still plenty for the pros to break down for the season finale of the Walmart FLW Tour presented by General Tire.
