Carver Moves Into First on Wheeler

After day two of the Costa FLW Series event presented by Mercury and hosted by Florence/Lauderdale Tourism, the picture at Wheeler Lake is becoming clearer. The main-lake offshore bite failed to materialize for big catches and it looks as if the shallow bite is going to go the distance.

Springtime continues to hang on at Wheeler Lake - at least according to Wheeler Lake bass. The words "bass are still spawning," "shad spawn" and "shallow" have been used a whole lot more than "offshore," "ledges" and "deep" in the Costa FLW Series presented by Mercury and hosted by Florence/Lauderdale Tourism this week.

After a small frontal passage overnight, day two of the Costa FLW Series presented by Mercury and hosted by Florence/Lauderdale Tourism dawned much cooler and crisper, like a fall day with light 5 to 10 mph winds out of the northwest.

Powell Leads on Wheeler

Shane Powell of Midland City, Ala., leads after day one of the Costa FLW Series on Wheeler Lake presented by Mercury and hosted by Florence/Lauderdale Tourism with 18 pounds, 10 ounces. Behind him, the leaderboard is stacked pretty tight with 10th place at 15 pounds, 6 ounces.

The third and final Costa FLW Series Southeastern Division event on Wheeler Lake presented by Mercury and hosted by Florence/Lauderdale Tourism kicked off this morning out of Joe Wheeler State Park in Rogersville, Ala. The 154 pros and co-anglers in the field will be facing early summer conditions where early morning shad spawns and afternoon ledges should be primary players.
