Coming off his big win on Beaver Lake, Scott Canterbury is back in the hunt for his sixth-consecutive Forrest Wood Cup qualification after a tough 138th-place showing to start the season on Okeechobee. Hailing from Springville, Ala., the Quaker State pro has a mixed, but mostly successful record on Pickwick to this point. Fishing the Walmart FLW Tour since 2004, Shinichi Fukae entered with a blaze of glory, winning the Angler of the Year title his rookie season, and has been a tenacious competitor and a consistent Forrest Wood Cup qualifier ever since. Here's how he broke down Pickwick from about 5:30 a.m. to noon on the first morning of practice for the upcoming FLW Tour event presented by Quaker State and hosted by Florence/Lauderdale Tourism.
The Rogers State University duo of Dillon Roberts of Claremore, Oklahoma, and Bret Fite of Salina, Oklahoma, won the FLW College Fishing Southern Conference event on Fort Gibson Lake Saturday with five bass weighing 18 pounds, 1 ounce. The victory earned the club $2,000 and qualified the team for the 2017 FLW College Fishing National Championship.
Scott Mooneyham of Fayetteville, North Carolina, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 16 pounds, 2 ounces, Saturday to win the FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Piedmont Division tournament on Lake Gaston presented by Power-Pole. For his victory, Mooneyham took home $2,977.
Nick Lebrun of Bossier City, Louisiana, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 22 pounds, 13 ounces, Saturday to win the FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Cowboy Division tournament on Toledo Bend Lake presented by Minn Kota. For his victory, Lebrun took home $4,866.
Clayton Joyce of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 29 pounds, 2 ounces, Saturday to win the FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Choo Choo Division tournament on Lake Guntersville presented by Navionics. For his victory, Joyce took home $4,359.
Todd Lowe of Greensboro, Georgia, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 17 pounds even Saturday to win the fourth FLW Bass Fishing League (BFL) Bulldog Division tournament of 2016 on Lake Oconee. For his victory, Lowe took home $6,825.
The Costa FLW Series Southeastern Division finale is slated for Wheeler Lake on May 12-14 and will be a fitting end to the Strike King Angler of the Year race as the 70-plus-mile-long lake should offer plenty of options.
All week long at the Costa FLW Series Central Division event presented by Lowrance, Kentucky Lake seemed like a lake just on the verge of blowing wide open. New fish were moving into the shallows to spawn, and those that had come before them were trickling back out toward the main lake. In just a few days, 20-pound stringers of ledge fish will start showing up at weigh-ins. This time, making the top 10 meant navigating the transition and having faith that new fish would continue to arrive wherever a pro was fishing.
