Day one of the Costa FLW Series Central Division opener on Lake Dardanelle saw two storms blow across this Arkansas River impoundment. One took the form of towering clouds laden with rain and bristled with lightning. The other came at the hands of a tall Texan named Todd Castledine, who sacked up a limit catch that weighed 22 pounds, 3 ounces to take the day-one lead in the tournament, which is presented by Mercury and hosted by Russellville Advertising & Promotions. He currently leads by more than 3 pounds over Missourian Greg Jones and is the only angler in a field of 190 boats to top 20 pounds.
Focusing on a key area of Lake Dardanelle with fish in all three stages of the spawn proved productive for Todd Castledine, who topped day one of the Costa FLW Series Central Division event presented by Mercury with 22 pounds, 3 ounces. Learn about the rest of the top performers from day one down here.
The storyline arising from the Costa FLW Series Central Division opener on Lake Dardanelle might very well be one of perseverance. For starters, a wall of thunderstorms swept across the area within 30 minutes of takeoff. Anglers, no doubt, sought shelter as best they could during the rough stuff.
Last fall, FLW Canada had the opportunity to host the first-ever FLW-sanctioned international tournament. That event - the 2015 FLW Canada Championship on Big Rideau Lake - was a resounding success and produced the first International Division qualifiers to the 2016 Costa FLW Series Championship on Table Rock Lake.
Day one of the Costa FLW Series Central Division event on Lake Dardanelle presented by Mercury and hosted by Russellville Advertising & Promotions kicked off this morning out of Lake Dardanelle State Park. As they vie for the $60,000 top prize, the 190 pros and co-anglers in the field will face morning rain and thunderstorms, which should be followed by moderate temperatures and mostly sunny skies.

As the 2015-2016 FLW College Fishing season ends, two new faces - but a similar jersey - stand with the trophy. The team of Hampton Anderson and Chris Blanchette took home the hardware for the University of South Carolina, marking the second year in a row that our in-state neighbors have won the National Championship.
Consistency is what the bass in Arkansas' Lake Dardanelle need. The Costa FLW Series Central Division opener on this 34,300-acre Arkansas River impoundment will likely see fish in all three stages of the spawn, but to what degree is anyone's guess. A lot rests in the hands of Mother Nature and Army Corps of Engineers.
What can I say about Hartwell? First off, the weather conditions were exactly the opposite of what we got last time the FLW Tour stopped there. Thinking back, the weather was foggy, cold and rainy - straight up miserable. This year we had great weather, sunny and 82; exactly what you'd expect in South Carolina.

Despite rumors of its demise as a tournament destination, Chesapeake Bay and its feeder streams in Maryland are still in play for bass fishermen.
