In 2016, I will be stepping from the back of the boat to the front deck for my rookie season as a pro on the Walmart FLW Tour. The decision to pursue my childhood dream at the next level has made my fall and winter a little different so far. OK, it's actually been a lot different than a normal offseason. Sure, I'm cleaning reels, organizing jigs and changing the treble hooks on my crankbaits, like in years past, but there's a lot more to consider this time around.

For five seasons, Brad Knight struggled on the Walmart FLW Tour. From unexpected breakdowns to lost fish and missed chances, the part-time pharmacist from Lancing, Tenn., cracked the top 50 only once. That all changed with a 19th-place finish in the annual standings and a 20th-place showing in the Forrest Wood Cup in 2014. In 2015, his momentum continued to shift into high gear as he made it into a couple of semifinal rounds in regular-season events, then capped it all off with a dramatic Forrest Wood Cup win on Lake Ouachita.
Ground zero for giant bass, the Sunshine State nevertheless consistently frustrates plenty of competitors not used to the ways of the native fish or who feel uncomfortable around all that seemingly endless aquatic vegetation. But the top-end is ridiculous, and the competition is fierce. There aren't many places where a guy can drop 30 pounds on the scale and still be nervous about being overtaken in the standings.

Since he placed third in the Forrest Wood Cup on Lake Ouachita last August, life has been pretty darn good for Greenwood, S.C., pro Brandon Cobb. In fact, considering he is about to enter his junior season on the Walmart FLW Tour, it might be more accurate to say that things are great - in and out of a boat.
