Quick, who was the first Walmart FLW Tour Angler of the Year? If you answered Peter Thliveros, give yourself a pat on the back. Peter T, as he's more commonly known, led the pack in 1996, the year FLW burst onto the national bass tournament stage. Three years later, Thliveros had another stellar season and finished fourth in the annual standings. In fact, the Florida pro qualified for six consecutive Forrest Wood Cup championships between 1996 and 2001 (the year of 9/11, when there was no Cup) and was one of the Tour's shining stars in its formative years. It seemed Thliveros could do no wrong when he set out on the tournament path, but then came a lot of ups and downs in what became a rocky road for him. He finished 117th, 135th and 146th in 2002, 2003 and 2005, respectively, and disappeared from the Tour scene between 2006 until his return in 2012.

Rising water brought increased current to Lake Dardanelle, and Jason Lieblong leveraged this dynamic to take the lead on day one of Rayovac FLW Series Central Division action on this Arkansas River impoundment. He brought in a limit that weighed 19 pounds, 10 ounces. In the early hours of his day the pro from Conway, Ark., alternated between backwaters and main-lake banks in an effort to determine where the fish were most active. Once the sun gained altitude and harsh light had pushed the fish tight to cover, he committed to the bank. "I just put the trolling motor down and went fishing and found some fish on your obvious stuff like laydowns and grass. I even caught some in open water with no structure whatsoever," Lieblong says. "I found a little current, and that's key."
Arkansas pro Jason Lieblong took the day-one lead in Rayovac FLW Series Central Division action on Lake Dardanelle with 19 pounds, 10 ounces. Flipping plastics produced all of his fish. Here are the details of the rest of the top five.
The warm, sunny conditions that greeted Rayovac FLW Series Central Division anglers at the morning takeoff on Lake Dardanelle will continue through the afternoon. The light early breeze has increased to a 5-10 mph wind - a welcome factor as daytime temperatures approach 90 degrees
Keith Schenck, father of Walmart FLW Tour pro Shad Schenck, died Thursday of complications from a blood infection. The 75-year-old Schenck is survived by his wife, Carole; a daughter, Shannan; Shad; and grandchildren. Though funeral arrangements are still pending, internment will take place in Noblesville, Ind. More information will be posted on this website as it's made known.
Tournament fishing inherently has its ups and downs, but Rayovac FLW Series Central Division anglers are getting a concentrated dose of this angling truism on Lake Dardanelle. An Army Corps of Engineers impoundment of the Arkansas River, Dardanelle has seen its water level fluctuate with recent rains and the Corps' efforts to moderate this flow. Dam releases have pulled the lake down enough to reposition fish.
Now, a little barbecue and a little bass fishing are nothing out of the ordinary for Southern folks in the summertime. But Shea's not Southern. He's not even American. Shea is one of the premier British competitive cookers, and he's traveling with his crew - the British Bulldogs BBQ team - across the Atlantic to test his slow-cooking mettle against some of the very best pitmasters in an event sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS).
