How to Fish the Prop Bee

July 22, 2015 6:48 am
The Brian's Bees Prop Bee isn't the most popular topwater bait on the Walmart FLW Tour. Rather, it's more limited in scope. It's a niche bait. When a tournament falls into the window where the Prop Bee shines, however, it's one of those "you-gotta-have-it" baits that is practically a shoo-in to produce a few top-10 finishes.

Never Miss a Bass Again

5:46 am
Do you ever listen at the weigh-in at how many guys talk about all the fish they missed? I can't accept that it's part of the job at hand. It's one of my pet peeves. Most of us would do much better if we would just ask the simple question "why?" In prefishing we have already done most of the hard work. During the tournament, a missed fish can't be accepted. I consider it a good tournament when I come back to the ramp with no missed fish, regardless of my finish. How does that happen? It starts way before the tournament.

Shane Lehew Gets His Chance

July 21, 2015 9:36 am
In 2014, Lehew began his Tour pro career by capturing 24th place in the first event of the year on Lake Okeechobee. His performances on the Big O last year and at Lake Toho this spring reflect his preference for fishing shallow water with mixed cover.

Top Picks From ICAST

A few days of walking the floor at ICAST is enough to exhaust a body, but it isn't enough to know exactly what's worthwhile. For that, you need some time to reflect and probably a few tournament seasons to fly by to see what rises up.

New Rod Roundup

July 17, 2015 4:00 pm
Rod companies continue to impress each year with a new crop of lighter, faster and more affordable (sweet!) rods. On the subject of price, these days, a tournament pro or an average angler could be fishing with rods that cost less than $100 apiece, but without giving up anything in the realm of quality. Among the trends at this year's show was the adaptation of the Microwave guide system to baitcasting rods - and just about every rod company added them to its lineup. Essentially, the Microwave system starts with a stripper guide that actually has two eyes that funnel the line down quickly off the reel. Gaining control right off the bat smooths the line so that it can flow through the remaining guides with less friction. We rounded up a pretty full list of new rods to give you a quick first look at what was unveiled at ICAST. Stay tuned throughout the summer and fall for more in-depth reviews of some of the most promising models. Click here for complete 2015 ICAST coverage.
