Competitors in the FLW College Fishing National Championship mostly targeted bass feeding on spawning blueback herring on shallow points and main-lake pockets. Across the board, herring-imitating baits such as soft jerkbaits, swimbaits, topwaters, wake baits and umbrella rigs dominated the event.

Morfis Dominates With 34-Pound Limit

OKEECHOBEE, Fla. - Joshua Morfis of Cape Coral, Florida, weighed a five-bass limit totaling 34 pounds, 14 ounces Saturday to win the fourth Walmart Bass Fishing League Gator Division tournament of 2015 on Lake Okeechobee. For his victory, Morfis earned $6,336.

Gossett, Shields Anxious to Tackle Grand

Alabama's Zeke Gossett and Ryan Shields are anxious to hit Oklahoma's Grand Lake O' the Cherokees with everything they've got. The duo is one of 10 elite student teams that will clash on the legendary Sooner impoundment April 25-26 in the Student Angler Federation High School Fishing National Championship. "We're fired up to give it everything we've got and go for the win," says Gossett, an 18-year-old senior from Cropwell. "It would be great to represent Alabama well on the national stage," adds Shields, 18, a senior from Hazel Green. Though the young guns hail from different High School Fishing programs, they routinely fish a few events together each season.

Tennesseans Ready for National Stage

While many Americans dread at least one date in April that ends in a five, the 25th can't come soon enough for Jake Lee and Corey Brooks. The hard-fishing Tennessee tournament veterans are eager to hit the water and begin their quest for the crown in the Student Angler Federation High School Fishing National Championship. Running April 25-26 on Oklahoma's Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, the event pits the country's top 10 high school teams against one another in a battle for ultimate bragging rights and a $10,000 college scholarship.
