Two weeks make a big difference in the life of a bass lake. In early October, it seemed that north Alabama's Lake Wheeler would present more of a challenge than most contestants in the Rayovac FLW Series Championship that begins Thursday might have preferred. Now, however, the 68,000-acre impoundment is laying a generous table for the 140 pros and their co-anglers who'll participate in the three-day event.

The Lamar University team of Brandon Simoneaux of Bridge City, Texas, and Josh Bowie of Port Neches, Texas, won the FLW College Fishing Southern Conference Invitational tournament on Sam Rayburn Reservoir Sunday with a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 29 pounds, 5 ounces. The victory earned the club $4,000 and qualified the team for the 2015 FLW College Fishing National Championship.

GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. - J.R. Henard of Rogersville, Tennessee, weighed a two-day total of 10 bass totaling 42 pounds, 5 ounces, to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League (BFL) Chevy Wild Card on Kentucky Lake Saturday. For his victory, Henard won $4,478 as well as entry into the 2015 BFL All-American presented by Chevy.

Everyone likes a lush, green lawn, but Buzz Gallo was particularly impressed with some of the grass he found on Sam Rayburn Reservoir - the site of his BFL Regional victory Oct. 16-18.

Another year gone, and another off-season flying by. I'm still trying to catch up on all the stuff around the house that I let go during the season. Chores like painting the garage or little fix-it-up jobs around the house and yard seem to never end. By the way, I am currently fighting it out with fire ants, and even though they seem to have won most of the battles so far, I guarantee they will not win the war.
