BYRDSTOWN, Tenn. - Jeff Emerton of Hillham, Tenn., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 21 pounds, 14 ounces Saturday to win the first Walmart Bass Fishing League Mountain Division tournament of 2014 on Dale Hollow Lake. For his victory, Emerton earned $5,782.

Every place I've been this year - with the exception of Florida, which exists in its own little bubble - has had a really cold winter. It's a winter that seemingly just won't end. Just when you think it's about to warm up, <i>boom</i>, there's another bout with ice and really cold temperatures. As such, there are some intriguing questions developing: How delayed will the spawn be; how long might it last; and is water temperature the only variable that will be affected?

Although the poet Robert Browning wasn't referring to bass tournaments when he wrote that bit of verse, it's applicable to those who aspire to great things on the Walmart FLW Tour. The quest should be worthy of the goal. For sure, reaching for the stars doesn't guarantee an angler success, and it's especially frustrating when he comes close until the fish or circumstances move the goalposts farther away from him. Consider some of the anglers who made a run at the Lake Hartwell championship, only to fall short in the end.

KHSAA regional registration now open for fishing

BENTON, KY - Registration for teams participating in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) bass fishing regionals April 5 and 6 is now open. All registrations will take place at Simply click on the KHSAA logo on the right hand side of the page, select regional under tournament type then select the region your school is in. From there you will fill in the information requested and submit your team's entry.

The 2014 Texas State High School Fishing Championship will take place on the Lyndon B. Johnson Reservoir. The 2014 schedule represents a major expansion of High School Fishing by FLW and The Bass Federation due to increasing demand.

Yet, he wasn't the only pro to successfully navigate the up-and-down weather conditions of the event for a high finish.
