CLEWISTON, Fla. - Mike Keyso Jr. of North Port, Fla., weighed a five-bass totaling 24 pounds, 14 ounces Saturday to win the first Walmart Bass Fishing League Gator Division tournament of 2014 on Lake Okeechobee. For his victory, Keyso earned $6,000.

OKEECHOBEE, Fla. - The Rayovac FLW Series is headed to Lake Okeechobee January 9-11 when as many as 300 pros and co-anglers take to the water for the first of three stops in the Southeast Division. The Lake Okeechobee event is presented by Power-Pole.
I wouldn't say it was a perfect season, but it sure worked out. I mean, it was a good year, but not a great year. I was surprised to even have a shot to win after Beaver Lake (he finished 68th). Honestly, it was never even on my mind until someone mentioned right before Chickamauga that I had a shot at winning it.

Cold water slows fish down. And depending on where the lake is, when the water temperature gets down in the high 40s to mid 50s, bass are less inclined to chase big baitfish because their metabolism slows way down and they don't need to eat as much. The best thing a fisherman can do in this situation is to downsize his/her tackle and lures and fish a lot slower.
