LAKEPORT, Calif. - While the trend on most bass fisheries is to see weights drop after day one in multiple-day events, then again, Clear Lake isn't your average fishery. Day two of the EverStart Series Western Division on Clear Lake showcased some of the largest bags of the event, including a 32-pound, 1-ounce bag that boosted Jason Borofka into the driver's seat to start the final day.

LAKEPORT, Calif. - By many accounts, the opening round of the final EverStart Series Western Division event on Clear Lake was tough. Although, the word tough can all be relative. If you consider that out of the nearly 100 pros in the event only half brought in limits - then yeah, it was tough. On the flip side, there were 24 bags weighing over 20 pounds today including one belonging to leader Chris Costello who hauled in a whopping 28 pounds, 6 ounces.

Tricky transition on Clear Lake

What off-season?

October 9, 2013 9:07 am
Looking back, I used to think that the three- to four-month timeframe between October and February was the "off-season" for my fishing schedule. Boy has that changed over the past few years! I get a lot of calls and messages asking what I'm up to in my "off-season" since I'm not fishing tournaments. But the life of a professional bass fisherman rarely affords much down time or an off-season, and that fact I'm learning very quickly.

Fall is one of the best times of the year to use crankbaits, either on ledges or secondary ledges, ambush points leading into creeks or old roadbeds - anywhere bass are likely to stack up as the water and baitfish transition. During this time, you can still catch bass offshore as well with deep divers or along the banks with square-bills.
