FLW announces 2014 College Fishing schedule

MINNEAPOLIS - FLW, the world's largest tournament-fishing organization, has announced its 2014 FLW College Fishing schedule, which for the first time features stand-alone tournaments on some of the country's best fisheries and no off-limits period in advance of qualifiers and invitationals. One of the fastest-growing college sports, FLW College Fishing has grown to more than 600 registered clubs located all over the country and offers students a chance to fish for cash and prizes for their club while ultimately advancing to the Forrest Wood Cup for the chance to win $500,000 - the sport's largest award.

The ultimate goal is for readers to get to know the thoughts, opinions and personalities of some of the best anglers the sport has to offer.

I want to thank FLW for asking me to make a monthly contribution as a guest blogger. I look forward to it, and hopefully will tackle some topics that deal with what makes our sport so great. My first subject is one of my favorite topics. Actually it's one of the things that make our sport so difficult, awesome, challenging, different - the list could go on and on. Logical thought vs. intuitive thought. Intuitive thinking is what separates a great fisherman from a good one.

If I use heavy-gauge hooks for flipping grass with braided line, why not use the same gauge hooks for fishing all soft plastics?

Padgett takes Chevy Wild Card on West Point

LANETT, Ala. - Bobby Padgett of Lawrence, Ga., won the Walmart Bass Fishing League (BFL) Chevy Wild Card on West Point Lake with a two-day total of 10 bass weighing 21 pounds, 15 ounces. For his victory, Padgett won $3,875 and entry into the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The tournament was hosted by the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.

FLW announced registration dates for the 2014 EverStart Series season, which features three events in each of the five divisions with increased payouts and a no-entry-fee championship.

Chevy Wild Card set for West Point Lake

The 2013 Walmart BFL season concludes with the Chevy Wild Card on Friday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 26. The Chevy Wild Card on West Point Lake will provide BFL anglers who didn't qualify for the Regional Championship a final chance to qualify for the BFL All-American presented by Chevy, one of the longest-running championships in fishing. The tournament is hosted by the Greater Valley Area Chamber of Commerce.
