IUKA, Miss. - Michael Wooley of Collierville, Tenn., weighed a two-day total of 10 bass for 45 pounds, 3 ounces Sunday to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League Mississippi Division event on Pickwick Lake. For his victory, Wooley earned $8,230.

It seems like just yesterday nearly all members of the bass fishing media were writing about this new bait/system that mimicked an entire school of baitfish. It's hard to believe that it was almost two years ago that Paul Elias introduced the Alabama rig with his domination on Lake Guntersville.

Anyone who follows big-league bass fishing knows pro David Fritts is legendary for his ability to sniff out and catch bass on a crankbait. True, Fritts is handy with other styles of lures. But he is the iceman with a crankbait, particularly when the bass relate to cover or structure in deep water.

By the end of summer, grass such as hydrilla can get so thick and matted that it's almost impossible to fish with a conventional jig. In fact, you're better off not even trying. Instead, I use one of two types of jigs: a ¾- or 1-ounce Punisher jig with a pointed head and inline tie that goes through vegetation better, and a punch jig that I put together.

NORTH EAST, Md. - The EverStart Series is headed to the Chesapeake Bay Sept. 12-14 when as many as 300 pros and co-anglers take to the water for the final stop in the Northern Division.

NORTH EAST, Md. - FLW College Fishing is headed to the Chesapeake Bay Sept. 14-15 for the Northern Conference Invitational tournament. Forty-five college teams have qualified for this tournament and will be competing for a top award of $4,000 and a berth in the 2014 FLW College Fishing National Championship.
