PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - You'll often hear anglers say "Wind is your friend," because moving air masses move the water, oxygenate the shallows, position baitfish and make bass easier to target. But just like that friend who overstays his welcome, raids your fridge and leaves his socks on the couch, too much wind can become a hindrance. That's what happened to a lot of anglers on day two of the FLW EverStart Series Northern Division tournament on Lake Champlain.

Champlain challenges

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - A rainy summer has swollen Lake Champlain past its normal boundaries, but EverStart Series Northern Division anglers will still find plenty of opportunity throughout this spectacular fishery. Maximizing such abundance, however, will depend upon prudent decision making.

Pro Tips Weekly: J.T. Kenney

When fishing heavy grass in midsummer, it's a good idea to keep both a frog and punching rig handy on your deck. If you have a bass blow up on a frog in a mat of milfoil or other grass, but it fails to connect, a lot of times a punching rig will catch it. My favorite punching rig is a 1- or 11/2-ounce Reins tungsten weight with a 4/0 Cobra straight-shank flipping hook and either a Gambler Ugly Otter or a BB Cricket.

ICAST trends

Indeed ICAST is a bewildering show, a fishing spectacle like no other. In truth, it would take several weeks to scour every exhibitor's booth and truly digest the form and function of all the products displayed there.
