TRENTON, Mich. - With calm winds and high temperatures only reaching the mid-70s, day one of the EverStart Series Central Division finale proved to be the perfect chance to wrestle with Lake Erie. Known for both huge rollers and huge smallmouth bass, Erie produced only the latter on opening day as each of the top five pros chose to fish the big lake.

Cool weather, hot bite on St. Clair, Erie

TRENTON, Mich. - Late July is supposed to mark the dog days of summer, complete with uncomfortable heat and humidity, even in the Upper Midwest. But it feels more like late September this week in the Detroit area with highs only reaching the mid 70s. And unlike Florida largemouths, northern smallmouths still bite (and bite ferociously) during cold fronts - providing the perfect venue to close the EverStart Series Central Division season.

Lakes filled with matted grass produce some of the best bass fishing in the country, but can leave even professional anglers feeling overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. If you understand why the bass use the grass, as well as the prime locations to begin your search, in what situations each species of grass is favorable to bass habitat and how to break down these large grass mats, you'll unlock the best bass fishing of the summer.

July 20, 2013 9:36 pm
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Who knows? Maybe Robert Giannini does believe that the third time's the charm, but apparently he just didn't want to wait that long to win an EverStart tournament. That explains why in his first EverStart entry, the co-angler from Rochester, Mass. emerged victorious at this Northern Division event on Lake Champlain.

Lavictoire victorious

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - During the long run from the Ticonderoga region of southern Lake Champlain back to the EverStart Northern Division tournament site at Plattsburgh, N.Y., Thomas Lavictoire Jr. had the worst feeling that he had blown his 2-day lead. He was wrong.
