Veteran pro Tommy Martin is recovering in a Lubbock, Texas, hospital Thursday after suffering a heart attack that required three stints. Martin, 76, was deer hunting at his lease near Paducah, Texas, Tuesday evening when he started experiencing chest pains and shortness of breath. A friend drove him to a hospital in Childress, Texas, later that night, and the emergency room doctor confirmed that Martin was having a heart attack. Swimbaits are one of the most versatile baits on the market producing fish from shallow to deep, and from heavy cover to open water. While there is a soft plastic swimbait that will work in just about any situation, trying to carry a hook for every swimbait style from 2- to 8-inches long requires a lot of sizes. Great smallmouth fishing is a standby of winter in the South, and a big draw for many hard-core anglers. Blade baits, the float n' fly, and jigs and pigs are time honored cold-weather techniques for a chance at the smallie of a lifetime. For Brad Knight, who loves nothing more than to catch fish cranking, winter is also the time for lights-out smallmouth cranking.
The offseason here at FLW really isn't an offseason. The months between tournament seasons are spent planning for the coming year, signing up anglers and making sure that the FLW Tour and all of FLW's other tournament circuits offer the best opportunities out there for anglers who love to compete.
